The Delhi government has decided to discontinue its work-from-home (WFH) arrangement for government employees after concluding that the geopolitical situation has largely returned to normal. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has approved the withdrawal of the policy, which allowed employees to work remotely on Wednesdays and Saturdays, according to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO).

An official notification confirming the decision is expected to be issued later today. The CMO said that with the geopolitical environment having "practically normalised," the Chief Minister has given the go-ahead to resume regular office attendance for government staff. Alongside the rollback of the WFH arrangement, the Delhi government has also revised office working hours for departments under the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD). Under the new schedule, GNCTD offices will function from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM.

The working hours for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), however, remain unchanged, with offices continuing to operate between 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM. The latest decision reverses several precautionary measures introduced earlier this year as part of the Delhi government's efforts to conserve fuel, reduce traffic congestion, and improve air quality. These initiatives were launched after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens and government agencies to contribute towards strengthening economic resilience amid global uncertainties arising from the conflict in West Asia.

As part of those measures, the government had introduced a two-day work-from-home schedule every week and launched the "Metro Monday" campaign, encouraging ministers and senior officials to use the Delhi Metro instead of official vehicles. Additional restrictions included a one-year suspension of official foreign travel for ministers and government officers, as well as a six-month ban on purchasing new petrol, diesel, CNG, or hybrid vehicles for government use.

The Chief Minister had also appealed to residents to observe a weekly "No Vehicle Day" and advised educational institutions and government bodies to maximise online meetings, hearings, and lectures wherever possible to reduce unnecessary travel. With authorities now assessing the geopolitical situation as stable, the Delhi government has decided to restore normal office operations while continuing staggered office timings to help manage traffic flow across the city.
