The United States military is reportedly prepared to launch strikes on Iran as early as this weekend, although Donald Trump has not yet made a final decision on authorising military action. Reports from CNN and CBS indicate that American forces have completed operational preparations amid a major military buildup across the Middle East. This includes the deployment of warships, advanced fighter aircraft, and aerial refuelling planes, suggesting readiness for a sustained military campaign if approval is given.

According to officials familiar with internal discussions, the White House has been informed that the military could act within days. However, Trump remains undecided and continues to carefully evaluate whether launching an attack would serve US interests. Sources say he has privately debated both the advantages and risks of military action while consulting advisers and allies. Although he has previously authorised strikes and repeatedly warned Tehran of serious consequences if nuclear negotiations fail, it remains uncertain whether he will approve an operation in the immediate future.

The US has significantly increased its military presence in the region, deploying 13 warships, including the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, along with multiple destroyers and combat ships. Another carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, is also en route, escorted by additional naval vessels. The simultaneous presence of two US aircraft carriers in the region is uncommon and signals heightened military readiness. In addition, advanced fighter jets such as the F-22, F-15, and F-16, along with aerial refuelling aircraft and surveillance planes, have been deployed. Flight tracking data from Flightradar24 has shown increased military air activity, reinforcing signs of preparation.

Rising tensions are largely driven by ongoing disputes over Iran’s nuclear programme. Recent negotiations between US and Iranian officials in Geneva made limited progress, with White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stating that major differences remain despite some minor developments. Trump has warned that Iran must agree to a new nuclear deal or face possible military consequences. At the same time, internal unrest and protests within Iran, along with previous military strikes and economic pressure, have contributed to perceptions of vulnerability within the Iranian leadership under Ali Khamenei.

The situation is further complicated by coordination between Washington and Israel, whose leadership under Benjamin Netanyahu has supported increased pressure on Tehran, according to reports from Axios. While US military forces remain fully prepared, Trump continues to deliberate, and it is still unclear whether he will ultimately authorise a strike or pursue a diplomatic resolution instead.
