US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor met Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay during his visit to Bhutan, with talks covering investment, innovation, bilateral cooperation, regional stability and economic prosperity. Following his meeting with the Bhutanese monarch, Gor said on X that he was honoured to meet King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and discuss ways to expand opportunities for investment, innovation and cooperation between Bhutan and the United States.
Gor also highlighted Bhutan’s plans for the future, including the Gelephu Mindfulness City project, saying the initiative could create fresh opportunities for stronger US-Bhutan engagement. The US envoy also met Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and expressed his pleasure at returning to Bhutan. In a separate post, Gor described his discussion with Tobgay as substantive, focusing on efforts to promote stability and prosperity across the region.
Gor’s Bhutan visit followed his recent engagement with senior US and Indian defence officials in New Delhi. He had hosted US Pacific Command chief Admiral Samuel Paparo during Paparo’s October 5-8 visit to India. Gor said the gathering brought together senior military leaders from the two countries and highlighted the growing importance of the US-India defence partnership. Paparo attended the dinner alongside Chief of Defence Staff General NS Raja Subramani, Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth, Vice Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff Air Marshal Tejinder Singh and other senior defence officials.
The US Embassy said the event reflected the expanding scope of the US-India Major Defense Partnership and highlighted its growing strategic significance. Montana Governor Greg Gianforte also attended the gathering while visiting India with a delegation of business and industry representatives from October 5 to 9.
According to the US Embassy, Gianforte’s participation also highlighted the economic side of US-India ties, particularly the increasing involvement of American states, companies and innovators in strengthening trade and investment links. The embassy said the event reflected the broadening relationship between the United States and India, with defence and economic cooperation continuing to develop alongside the wider bilateral partnership.
