Two Bangladesh Nationals Held in West Bengal for Illegal Entry, Linked to Murder of Activist Sharif Osman Hadi

Indian authorities have registered a case of illegal entry against two Bangladeshi nationals who were recently arrested in West Bengal in connection with the murder of activist and Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
The accused, identified as Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hossain, were detained by security agencies after they allegedly crossed into India without valid travel documents. Officials said the two men are considered prime suspects in the killing of Hadi and had reportedly fled Bangladesh following the incident.
According to investigators, the suspects entered India illegally through the porous India–Bangladesh border and were attempting to evade law enforcement agencies. Acting on intelligence inputs, security forces tracked them down in West Bengal and placed them under arrest.
Police have registered a separate case against the two men under provisions related to illegal entry and violation of immigration laws. Authorities are now questioning them to determine the circumstances surrounding their entry into India and their possible role in the murder case.
Sharif Osman Hadi, a spokesperson for the activist group Inqilab Mancha, was reportedly killed in Bangladesh in an incident that has drawn significant attention in political and activist circles. The killing triggered outrage among supporters and calls for swift action against those responsible.
Indian agencies are also coordinating with Bangladeshi authorities to verify the suspects’ identities and gather further details related to the case. Officials said legal procedures, including potential extradition or further investigation, will depend on the outcome of the ongoing inquiry.
The arrests have once again highlighted concerns over cross-border infiltration along the India–Bangladesh border. Security agencies have increased surveillance in border districts to prevent illegal crossings and to ensure that fugitives do not exploit the boundary to escape prosecution.
Investigations into the murder of Sharif Osman Hadi and the activities of the arrested suspects are currently ongoing. Authorities say further developments are expected as interrogations continue.
