New Delhi: The investigation into the death of Twisha Sharma has intensified after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a fresh FIR alleging dowry harassment and conspiracy. One of the key allegations in the FIR claims that Twisha’s mother-in-law, retired judge Giribala Singh, demanded ₹2 lakh from the bride’s family during the wedding “vidai” ceremony. The CBI formally took over the probe from the Bhopal Police following growing public attention and legal scrutiny surrounding the case. The agency has now begun investigating charges related to dowry death, harassment, and criminal conspiracy.

According to details mentioned in the FIR, Twisha Sharma married advocate Samarth Singh in December 2025. Investigators are examining allegations that she was subjected to mental and physical harassment soon after the marriage. The FIR reportedly states that ₹2 lakh was demanded by Giribala Singh at the time of vidai and that the amount was paid by Twisha’s family under pressure. Twisha Sharma, 33, was found hanging at her matrimonial home in Bhopal earlier this month. Her family has accused her husband Samarth Singh and his family of dowry harassment and abetment to suicide. The accused family, however, has denied the allegations and claimed that Twisha was struggling with personal issues.

The case has attracted nationwide attention because Giribala Singh is a former district judge. Questions were also raised over the initial investigation, prompting demands for an independent probe. The Madhya Pradesh government later recommended a CBI investigation amid mounting pressure and public outrage.

The postmortem report reportedly confirmed “antemortem hanging,” while injury marks found on Twisha’s body added to the controversy surrounding the case. Following concerns raised by the victim’s family, the Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered a second autopsy by a team from AIIMS Delhi. The Supreme Court has also taken note of the matter and urged both sides to avoid making public statements that could influence the investigation. The court reportedly expressed concern over allegations of institutional bias due to the involvement of a former judicial officer in the case.

Investigators are also looking into phone records and CCTV-related developments after Twisha’s family alleged possible tampering with evidence. Reports claim several calls were made to influential individuals and CCTV technicians shortly after her death, raising further suspicion around the circumstances of the incident. The CBI team has reached Bhopal and is continuing its investigation. No final conclusions have been announced yet, and the matter remains under active probe.
