Cat enthusiasts in Singapore will lose a popular destination in 2026, as The Cat Cafe at The Rail Mall has announced its closure in March of next year. In posts shared on Facebook and Instagram on Tuesday (April 29), the cafe explained that the decision to shut down was a difficult one, primarily driven by rising operational costs, which have made it increasingly unsustainable to continue running the outlet.

The announcement sparked disappointment among loyal customers, with many sharing their fond memories of the cafe. One person wrote, "Nooooo, you're my favorite happy place! And my favorite cats are all there. I'll wait for updates on where the cats will go." Another commented, "So sad to hear this. I have beautiful memories of The Cat Cafe at The Rail Mall. I did most of my university work there, playing so much with the cats. But I know they’ll find wonderful new homes with loving owners and caring staff."

However, it's not all sorrow. To make their final months special, the cafe has promised to celebrate with monthly events, promotions, and fundraising for animal shelters that have supported them over the years. "Let's make these last 10 months at The Rail Mall unforgettable!" they said. Currently, the cafe is home to 14 rescued cats. Most will be rehomed with current or former staff, while some will be moved to their Bugis location. A few cats may also be made available for public adoption. At the time of writing, the Bugis branch, which houses 15 rescued cats, will remain open.
