The Indian Army on Thursday recovered a suspicious consignment believed to have been dropped by a drone near the India Pakistan border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, officials confirmed. The recovery included seventy rounds of ammunition and an object suspected to be an improvised explosive device.

According to officials, the consignment was dropped in the early hours of the morning in the Chakkan da Bagh area of Khari village. The location lies between Rangar Nallah and the Poonch River, a sensitive zone close to the Line of Control that has witnessed repeated attempts of cross border infiltration and smuggling activities in the past.

During a thorough inspection of the area, Army personnel discovered a bag containing the ammunition. Alongside it, they found a yellow tiffin box which raised suspicion due to its unusual placement and weight. Preliminary assessment suggested that the box contained nearly two kilograms of explosive material, prompting immediate safety measures. The Bomb Disposal Squad was quickly deployed to the site to handle the suspected explosive. After following standard safety procedures, the team successfully neutralized the device through a controlled explosion, ensuring that no casualties or damage occurred in the surrounding area.

Following the recovery and disposal operation, joint teams comprising the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Special Operations Group launched an extensive search operation in the region. The search aims to trace any additional suspicious material and identify those responsible for the drone drop. Security agencies remain on high alert as investigations continue to assess the source of the consignment and prevent similar incidents in the future.
