Concerns over a possible LPG shortage have emerged in Bengaluru, with several hotels and restaurants fearing disruptions to their kitchen operations. The issue comes amid global fuel supply pressures linked to tensions in West Asia. Tejasvi Surya has written to Hardeep Singh Puri, urging the government to ensure uninterrupted LPG supply for the city’s hospitality sector. He shared that concerns raised by the Bangalore Hotels Association highlight how restaurants and hotels depend heavily on commercial LPG for daily cooking and currently lack large-scale alternatives like PNG or electric systems.

Surya warned that any disruption in LPG availability could affect restaurant operations, employment in the sector, and services to customers. While supporting the government’s priority to secure LPG for households, the association has requested that commercial establishments continue receiving steady supplies through existing distribution channels.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has directed oil refineries to increase LPG production due to global supply constraints. The additional output has mainly been allocated for domestic household use to maintain energy security during ongoing geopolitical disruptions. To manage supply and prevent hoarding or black marketing, the ministry has also introduced a 25-day gap between LPG bookings for consumers.
