HONG KONG — Nine people were killed when "sudden strong winds" caused four tourist boats to capsize in southwestern China, throwing 84 individuals into the water, according to state media on Monday (May 5). The tragic incident occurred in Guizhou province, where efforts to locate a missing person are still underway. A total of 74 people have been rescued, with nearly 500 rescue workers mobilized to assist with the operation.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has instructed provincial authorities to "do everything possible" in their efforts to address the aftermath of the accident.
