In a joint operation on Monday, the Poonch Police and the Indian Army's Romeo Force uncovered a suspected terrorist hideout in Surankot village, Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir. During the raid, security personnel recovered five improvised explosive devices (IEDs), several radio sets, electrical wires, binoculars, and blankets. The Poonch Police later released images from the site, displaying the recovered equipment.

This significant breakthrough followed a high-level joint security review meeting held a day earlier at the Police Control Room (PCR) in Kashmir. Chaired by Inspector General of Police (IGP) VK Birdi, the meeting included representatives from the Army, Police, Intelligence agencies, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), focusing on current security challenges in the Valley.

Meanwhile, tensions remain high along the Line of Control (LoC). According to officials, during the night of May 4–5, the Indian Army responded to unprovoked small arms fire initiated by the Pakistan Army in several sectors including Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajouri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor. The Indian side retaliated promptly and in a controlled manner. Similar incidents were also reported on the night of May 3–4 in the same regions.

This marks the eleventh straight day of India’s measured response to continued provocations, which began with cross-border firing on April 25–26. In a related development, the Ministry of Civil Aviation announced that, effective April 30, India has closed its airspace to all Pakistani-registered aircraft and airlines. This step follows the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in 26 fatalities.
