Ready to join hands to stop BJP s comeback : Owaisi on Uttar Pradesh 2027 Assembly elections

Asaduddin Owaisi, president of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, on Monday stated that his party is willing to enter into political alliances to stop the Bharatiya Janata Party from regaining power in the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Owaisi said AIMIM is open to joining hands with opposition parties, but stressed that any alliance must be based on mutual respect and equal participation.
“We are ready to come together with others to stop the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, but only if AIMIM is treated with dignity and given equal importance within the alliance,” he said. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, AIMIM had contested in Uttar Pradesh alongside Apna Dal (Kamerawadi). However, Owaisi did not name any specific party or alliance in his latest remarks, triggering speculation that AIMIM could consider aligning with the INDIA bloc ahead of the 2027 polls.
Political observers are also closely watching the strategy of Mayawati and the Bahujan Samaj Party. If the BSP decides to contest independently, AIMIM may explore the possibility of an alliance with the party. Meanwhile, Owaisi on Sunday officially announced AIMIM’s Uttar Pradesh state president, Shaukat Ali, as the party’s candidate for the Matera Assembly seat, which is currently represented by a legislator from the Samajwadi Party.
Addressing a public rally in Matera, Owaisi reiterated that AIMIM would not agree to play a secondary role in any opposition coalition. He emphasised that discussions around alliances should focus on meaningful political representation and fair power-sharing. “If anyone wants to unite to defeat the BJP, we are willing. But the alliance must be built on equality and self-respect. AIMIM will not accept being treated as a party that only works for others without receiving its due share in political power,” he said.
