Poland has backed India’s right to take action against terrorists, with Polish Ambassador to India Piotr Antoni Świtalski saying Warsaw stands with New Delhi in its fight against terrorism. Speaking about India’s counter-terrorism efforts, Świtalski said Poland understands the threat posed by terrorism and supports India’s right to pursue those responsible for attacks. His remarks come amid growing discussions over India’s approach to cross-border terrorism and its efforts to prevent terrorist groups from operating with impunity.

The Polish envoy also highlighted the growing strategic relationship between India and Poland, saying the two countries have significant scope for cooperation in areas including defence, security and trade. Świtalski’s comments assume significance as India continues to strengthen international partnerships on counter-terrorism. New Delhi has repeatedly urged countries to adopt a firm approach against terrorist organisations and those who provide them support or safe havens.

The ambassador also spoke about Poland’s own experience with terrorism and said this shared understanding of security threats has contributed to Warsaw’s support for India’s position. His remarks come against the backdrop of Operation Sindoor, India’s military response following the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack. The operation brought renewed international attention to India-Pakistan tensions and India’s stated policy of responding firmly to terrorist attacks.

Beyond security cooperation, Poland is also seeking to deepen economic and defence ties with India. The two countries have increasingly explored opportunities for collaboration in defence manufacturing, technology, investment and other strategic sectors. Świtalski further pointed to the long-standing historical connection between India and Poland. During the Second World War, Indian rulers provided shelter to Polish refugees, including children displaced by the conflict. The legacy of that humanitarian assistance remains an important part of relations between the two countries.

For India, Poland’s public support is significant as New Delhi continues to build stronger relationships with European countries. Warsaw’s position also reflects the broader effort to develop international cooperation against terrorism while expanding bilateral ties beyond traditional areas of engagement. Poland’s message is clear: when it comes to combating terrorism, Warsaw says it stands with India and supports its right to protect its people and pursue those responsible for terrorist violence.
