The Budget Session of Parliament is set to resume on Monday, with both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha reconvening after a break for Holi. The Lok Sabha will meet at 11:00 AM to discuss key legislative matters, including reports from various standing committees. Among the scheduled presentations, BJP MP Radha Mohan Singh and SP MP Virendra Singh will submit reports from the Standing Committee on Defence. Congress leader Shashi Tharoor and BJP MP Arun Govil will present the fifth report of the Standing Committee on External Affairs, focusing on the Demands for Grants of the Ministry of External Affairs for 2025-26. Additionally, Lok Sabha members PC Mohan and Godam Nagesh will put forth reports related to Social Justice and Empowerment.
In other parliamentary business, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will propose the election of two members to the University of Delhi's court, while the Demands for Grants under the Ministry of Railways for 2025-26 will also be taken up for discussion and voting. The second phase of the Budget Session, which began on March 10, will continue until April 4.
Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha recently saw a heated exchange over Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s "thokenge" remark, which he made while responding to Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s comments on Tamil Nadu’s three-language policy. The BJP condemned Kharge’s choice of words, calling it disrespectful to the Chair. Union Health Minister JP Nadda demanded that the statement be retracted or removed from the official record. In response, Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh also expressed dissatisfaction, given Kharge’s stature in the House. Kharge apologized, clarifying that his remark was directed at government policies, not the Chair.
Apart from this controversy, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan reaffirmed the government's position on the National Education Policy (NEP), addressing DMK’s concerns about the imposition of Hindi. He dismissed allegations of linguistic bias and emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to preserving and promoting Tamil, calling it one of the world's most ancient languages. As discussions continue, the second half of the Budget Session is expected to remain eventful, with debates on critical national issues.
