The Afghan government has accused Pakistan of carrying out airstrikes in three eastern provinces, resulting in the deaths of at least 10 civilians, including nine children. The strikes mainly targeted a residential home in Khost province late Monday night, according to Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid, who condemned the attacks as a severe violation of Afghan sovereignty. He reported that among the victims were five boys, four girls, and one woman. Additional airstrikes in the Kunar and Paktika provinces left four civilians injured.

These incidents have intensified already strained relations between Kabul and Islamabad, which have been marred by ongoing border clashes and mutual accusations of harboring militant groups. The airstrikes coincided with a suicide bombing at a security facility in Peshawar, Pakistan, where three officers were killed—an attack Islamabad attributes to militants operating from Afghan soil. Meanwhile, Pakistan has maintained that its cross-border operations target the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants who launch attacks inside Pakistan while allegedly finding refuge in Afghanistan. This cycle of violence underscores the persistent instability across the porous Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

The rising toll of civilian casualties and continued military actions complicates diplomatic efforts to restore peace. Previous attempts at ceasefires and peace talks, brokered by international mediators, have faltered due to deep mistrust and differing security priorities.
