Pakistan violates LoC ceasefire in Kupwara, Uri for 7th straight night; Indian Army responds

In a significant development on May 1, the Indian Army confirmed that Pakistani forces had breached the ceasefire agreement along the Line of Control (LoC) for the seventh consecutive day. The latest incident took place during the night of April 30 to May 1, with Pakistani troops initiating unprovoked small-arms fire targeting Indian posts in Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnoor sectors of Jammu and Kashmir. Indian troops responded swiftly and proportionately to neutralize the threat.
"During the night of 30 April-1 May, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small-arms fire across the LoC opposite Kupwara, Uri and Akhnoor in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. These were responded proportionately," Indian Army officials informed a news outlet.
These repeated violations persist despite diplomatic engagements aimed at de-escalation. On April 29, the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) of both nations held a conversation via the military hotline, during which the Indian DGMO cautioned his Pakistani counterpart about ongoing violations along both the LoC and the International Border. The ceasefire breaches come in the aftermath of the horrific April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where Pakistan-backed militants slaughtered 26 Indian male tourists. The attack has sharply worsened Indo-Pak relations, with India vowing to bring those responsible to justice.
In response, the Indian government has launched a series of stringent diplomatic and strategic measures to counter Islamabad's continued support for terrorism. Key actions include suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, shutting down the Attari Integrated Check Post, and reducing the operational presence of the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi. India has also revoked the visas of Pakistani nationals residing in the country and deported them.
Further demonstrating its firm stance, India closed its airspace to all Pakistani-registered aircraft both civilian and military effective April 29. The Ministry of Civil Aviation confirmed that the restriction would remain in place until at least May 23. This move came shortly after Pakistan imposed a similar ban on Indian airspace. The airspace closure underscores the gravity with which India views the ongoing provocations. It signals New Delhi’s readiness to take bold and decisive actions in response to threats emanating from across the border.
To ensure a robust response to emerging threats, the Indian government has granted the armed forces full operational freedom. This encompasses retaliatory action against the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack as well as appropriate responses to LoC violations. In Kashmir, counter-terror operations have been ramped up, with Indian security forces actively dismantling terror infrastructure. Reports indicate additional ceasefire violations in regions like Baramulla and Kupwara, to which the Indian Army has responded with firmness and precision, reinforcing its commitment to defending the nation's sovereignty.
