The Pakistan Army violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) once again, engaging in unprovoked small arms firing during the night of April 28 and 29. The firing targeted areas in Kupwara and Baramulla districts of Jammu and Kashmir, as well as the Akhnoor sector. In response, the Indian Army retaliated in a measured and effective manner, according to news agency PTI. This marked the fifth consecutive night of ceasefire violations by Pakistan, which coincided with rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the terror attack in Pahalgam the previous week.

The Pahalgam attack occurred on April 22, when terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists at the Baisaran meadow in Anantnag district's Pahalgam area, killing 26 people, mostly tourists. In the aftermath of the attack, India took a series of punitive actions against Pakistan, including suspending the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, downgrading diplomatic ties, and shutting down the Integrated Check Post at Attari, a critical land link between the two nations. Additionally, India withdrew visa privileges under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme, canceled all visas previously issued to Pakistani citizens, blocked Pakistan’s official X account in India, and ordered Pakistani nationals to leave the country within 48 hours.

Furthermore, India blocked over 16 Pakistani YouTube channels for allegedly disseminating "false, provocative, and communally sensitive content." The blocked channels included major news outlets like Dawn News, SAMAA TV, ARY NEWS, BOL NEWS, and Geo News, as well as individual creators such as Irshad Bhatti, Raftar, and Asma Shirazi.
