Deputy Traffic Inspector (DTI) Vinay Gupta on Monday stated that restoration work is ongoing after a major landslide blocked the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district late Sunday night. Speaking to ANI, he advised travellers to stay updated through social media and avoid night travel whenever possible.

Gupta said the landslide occurred around 12:30 AM near Karol Bridge, causing a complete blockage of the highway. He added that while minor landslides had been reported earlier, this was a large-scale incident. The National Highway Authority has deployed heavy machinery to clear the debris, but it may take some time to restore normal traffic movement.

The landslide led to continuous stone falls between Karol Bridge and Chanderkote, with rocks and mud covering both lanes and halting vehicle movement from both directions. Authorities quickly responded by suspending traffic on the affected stretch to ensure public safety. Further updates on the restoration work and reopening of the highway are still awaited.

A separate landslide in the Mehar area of Ramban district—triggered by heavy rainfall—also blocked NH-44. At that time, Jammu and Kashmir Police advised commuters to avoid travel on the highway until conditions improved. Travellers were urged to check road status through official traffic police social media handles or contact traffic control units in Jammu, Srinagar, and Ramban before planning their journey.
