Rain activity increased across several parts of Mumbai on Thursday morning, leading the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad districts. The weather department has predicted continued rainfall across Maharashtra in the coming days. As per the IMD’s latest nowcast advisory, light to moderate rainfall is expected at isolated locations in Mumbai, Thane and Raigad. Officials have advised people to remain cautious and take necessary safety measures due to the ongoing weather conditions.

The IMD further stated that the Southwest Monsoon has made further progress, covering parts of the Northeast Arabian Sea, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, the remaining regions of Maharashtra, and additional areas of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand as of June 24. The weather agency said favourable conditions are developing for the monsoon to move ahead into more parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh over the next few days.

In its latest forecast for western India, the IMD predicted widespread rainfall activity in Konkan and Goa from June 24 to June 30. Madhya Maharashtra is likely to receive widespread showers on June 24 and again between June 26 and 27, while Marathwada may see similar rainfall conditions from June 24 to June 26.

The department has also warned of isolated heavy rainfall in Konkan and Goa during June 25-26 and June 28-30, with chances of very heavy rain in some areas on June 27. Heavy rainfall is also expected in parts of Madhya Maharashtra between June 25 and 27, and again on June 30. The IMD added that thunderstorms with lightning are likely in isolated areas of Konkan and Goa until June 28. Some parts of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada may also experience thunderstorms, strong winds and thundersqualls, with wind speeds potentially reaching up to 70 kmph during the forecast period.
