Mumbai Police on Friday arrested another person linked to the stone-pelting incident in Bandra’s Garib Nagar area, pushing the total number of arrests in the case to 19. Out of those arrested, 15 accused were presented before the Bandra Court on Thursday, which remanded them to police custody until May 26. Three additional accused are expected to be produced before the court later today.

Police officials confirmed that one of the 19 accused is a minor and has been placed in a Children’s Remand Home. The investigation is still underway, and authorities have indicated that more arrests could follow in the coming days. The violence broke out during an anti-encroachment operation near Bandra railway station in Mumbai. According to police, a group allegedly attacked security personnel by throwing stones and paver blocks while the demolition drive was in progress.

Mumbai Police earlier stated that 16 people had initially been detained for their alleged involvement in the clashes near Bandra railway station (East) on Wednesday. Officials said the unrest continued for nearly an hour before law enforcement managed to restore order. At least five police personnel suffered serious injuries during the incident. One officer reportedly sustained a fractured hand, while another suffered a broken nose. Around 10 others received minor injuries.

Speaking at a press conference, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the police had successfully brought the situation under control. Fadnavis stated that certain “miscreants” tried to disrupt the demolition operation being conducted by Western Railway authorities. “The police have completely controlled the situation and action has been taken against those responsible for provoking violence,” he said.

The demolition campaign was launched by Western Railway on May 19 to remove illegal structures built on railway land as part of ongoing infrastructure expansion and redevelopment plans. The Rail Land Development Authority had recently auctioned nearby land parcels to private developers for modernisation projects.
