Milind Soman took part in the sacred Bhasma Aarti at the Shree Mahakaleshwar Temple on Tuesday, participating in one of the most important rituals dedicated to Lord Shiva. Accompanied by his wife, Ankita Konwar, he offered prayers and sought divine blessings. The Bhasma Aarti, which involves offering sacred ashes, is among the most significant rituals at the temple. It takes place during the holy Brahma Muhurta, between 3:30 am and 5:30 am, drawing large numbers of devotees who gather to witness the spiritually powerful ceremony. It is widely believed that attending this ritual brings good fortune and helps fulfil devotees’ wishes.

The ceremony begins with the early morning opening of the temple gates, followed by a ritual bathing of the deity using Panchamrit—a sacred blend of milk, curd, ghee, sugar, and honey. Afterward, the deity is decorated with hemp and sandalwood paste before the Bhasma Aarti and dhoop-deep Aarti are performed alongside devotional chants.

The atmosphere during the ritual is deeply spiritual, enhanced by rhythmic drumbeats and the sound of conch shells echoing through the temple. The Bhasma Aarti holds great religious importance and attracts devotees from across India and abroad, all seeking blessings and spiritual peace.

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the Mahakaleshwar Temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and is regarded as one of the most sacred sites in Hinduism. Its unique traditions and spiritual significance make it a major centre of devotion, drawing lakhs of devotees and numerous celebrities throughout the year.
