Lok Sabha to take up motion of thanks on President Murmu's address today.

The Lok Sabha will begin discussions on the President’s Address on Monday, with Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal moving the motion of thanks for President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the joint sitting of Parliament on January 28. BJP MP Tejasvi Surya will second the motion. Eighteen hours have been allocated for the debate, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to respond on February 4.
The House will meet at 11 am today to take up a busy agenda, while Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to reply on February 11. During an all party meeting on January 27, opposition parties called for debates on issues such as MGNREGA, the SIR of electoral rolls, and the UGC matter. The Budget Session will run for 65 days across 30 sittings and conclude on April 2. Parliament will break on February 13 and reconvene on March 9 to allow Standing Committees to review Demands for Grants.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2026 27, her ninth consecutive budget. The budget focuses on youth driven growth and outlines major infrastructure plans, including seven high speed rail corridors, new freight corridors, and the development of 20 national waterways over the next five years. It also emphasizes sustainable passenger transport aimed at reducing travel time, cutting emissions, and boosting regional development.
