Bollywood actor Imran Khan’s girlfriend, Lekha Washington, has expressed her support for the actor on social media after reports emerged that he had been asked to leave India by October 28. The development follows their detention during an anti-Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) protest in Mumbai on October 10, which also involved Imran’s cousin, Zayn Marie Khan.

According to reports, the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Mumbai issued a notice directing Imran to leave the country. The actor holds a US passport and an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. The notice reportedly followed a complaint by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya regarding Imran’s participation in the protest.

Lekha appeared to react to the situation through her first social media post since the news emerged. On Friday, she shared a photograph on Instagram showing herself and Imran sitting inside a police van after they were detained during the demonstration. She accompanied the picture with several heart emojis, expressing affection and support for the actor.

Zayn Marie Khan also responded to Lekha’s post, commenting, “You are love,” followed by red heart emojis. The exchange attracted attention amid the ongoing developments surrounding Imran. The incident that led to their detention took place at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan, where members of the Cockroach Janta Party organised a demonstration calling for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. The protesters raised allegations of irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

According to Lekha’s account, she and Imran had gone to the location to check on friends who had been detained during the protest. However, the two were also taken into custody, along with more than 400 other demonstrators. After her release, Lekha shared her account of the incident on Instagram. She alleged that uniformed officers grabbed her and Zayn, leaving them with bruises, before forcing them into a vehicle. She further claimed that they were driven around for several hours and subsequently prevented from using public transport.

Lekha also described how Imran briefly spoke to reporters during the demonstration. According to her, he explained that they were present as individuals rather than as representatives of an organisation and were not making specific demands. She alleged that loud whistles and the commotion around them interrupted his statement before he could finish.

On October 15, the FRRO reportedly issued the notice asking Imran to leave India by October 28. A Mumbai Police official confirmed that the notice had been served on the actor, according to media reports. Imran’s lawyer, Zulfikar Memon, has indicated that the actor intends to challenge the notice in the Bombay High Court. The legal move could bring further clarity to the matter as the actor seeks to contest the decision. The situation has drawn attention to both Imran’s immigration status and the circumstances surrounding the Mumbai protest. While the legal proceedings remain a key development to watch, Lekha’s affectionate message has highlighted her support for the actor during a period of uncertainty.
