Kanpur Police stated that Shivam Mishra was behind the wheel at the time of the Lamborghini crash, following his arrest in the case.

Shivam Mishra, the main accused in the Kanpur Lamborghini crash case, was arrested on Thursday, four days after the luxury car collided with multiple vehicles and injured one person. Uttar Pradesh Police said he was taken into custody from a hospital. DCP Central Kanpur Atul Kumar Srivastava told ANI that five teams were formed after receiving information about Mishra’s presence in Kanpur. He confirmed that Mishra was produced before the court and that the investigation indicates he was driving the car at the time of the accident.
The crash took place on February 8 near Jhula Park Crossing, when the Lamborghini allegedly struck an autorickshaw and a Bullet motorcycle before hitting a pole. Eyewitnesses claimed the car was moving at high speed. The car’s driver, Mohan, had stated that he was behind the wheel during the incident. He claimed that Mishra, who was seated beside him, suffered a seizure, began shaking, and fell onto him, leading to the accident. Mohan said he was present at the scene and was later pulled out of the vehicle by a bouncer.
Mishra’s lawyer, Narendra Kumar Yadav, said that the driver submitted an affidavit taking responsibility for the accident. He added that the injured party and the complainant had reached a settlement, received compensation, and expressed in writing that they did not wish to pursue further action in the case.
However, Kanpur Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal earlier stated that Mishra’s name appears in the FIR and that available evidence, including CCTV footage, points to him as the driver. He said the police are satisfied with their findings despite conflicting claims. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including Sections 281, 125(a), 125(b), and 324(4). The investigation is being handled by Sub-Inspector Dinesh Kumar.
