Janpath, Patel Chowk and Rajiv Chowk Metro Stations Closed Ahead of CJP March; Security Tightened in Central Delhi

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) temporarily closed access to several key metro stations in central Delhi on Monday as security agencies stepped up arrangements ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) planned march towards Parliament. The precautionary measure was taken following instructions from law enforcement authorities to ensure public safety and maintain order in the high-security zone. According to the DMRC, entry and exit gates at Janpath, Patel Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, and Seva Teerth metro stations were shut until further notice. Train services continued on most routes, but passengers were unable to board or exit at the affected stations during the restrictions.

The metro closures coincided with the CJP's proposed "Chalo Sansad" march, which prompted a heavy deployment of Delhi Police personnel around Jantar Mantar, Parliament Street, and nearby government buildings. Authorities also imposed traffic restrictions across parts of central Delhi to prevent congestion and maintain security in the area.

Rajiv Chowk, one of the busiest interchange stations in the Delhi Metro network, was among the stations affected, leading to inconvenience for thousands of daily commuters. Office-goers, students, and visitors were advised to use alternate routes and keep track of official travel advisories before starting their journey. Later in the day, DMRC announced that operations at some stations, including Rajiv Chowk, had resumed as the security situation improved. However, officials cautioned that access could be regulated again depending on developments related to the protest and police assessments.

The Delhi Metro has frequently implemented temporary station closures during large demonstrations, high-profile events, and Parliament sessions as part of coordinated security measures with the Delhi Police. Officials urged commuters to rely on real-time updates issued by DMRC and the Delhi Traffic Police for the latest information on metro services and road diversions.
