Tehran: An Iranian lawmaker has said that Pakistan is “not a suitable intermediary” in ongoing diplomatic efforts, reflecting growing frustration in Tehran as key negotiations remain stalled.

Ahmad Bakhshayesh Ardestani made the remarks while commenting on attempts to revive dialogue in the region. He suggested that Islamabad lacks the neutrality and strategic positioning required to effectively mediate between conflicting sides.

The statement comes amid stalled diplomatic engagements involving the United States and Iran, where indirect channels have been explored to break the deadlock. Ardestani argued that mediation efforts require trust and balance, adding that Pakistan’s existing alignments may limit its credibility in such a role.

His comments also follow earlier criticism of Pakistan’s engagement with Washington, which he had described as a “strategic mistake.” The latest remarks further underline Tehran’s scepticism about Islamabad’s diplomatic positioning in sensitive regional matters.

Pakistan has in the past offered to facilitate dialogue between rival nations, leveraging its ties with multiple stakeholders. However, Iranian concerns suggest that such efforts may face resistance, especially when broader geopolitical tensions remain unresolved.

The development highlights the fragile state of diplomacy in the region, with stalled talks and competing alliances complicating efforts to find common ground.
