The Indian Air Force staged an air show at the Emergency Landing Facility on Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh on Saturday, where Sukhoi Su-30MKI and Rafale fighter jets took off in the presence of Narendra Modi and other dignitaries. The Prime Minister watched aerial manoeuvres featuring fighter aircraft, transport planes, and helicopters.

He was earlier welcomed on stage by Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The Emergency Landing Facility, the first of its kind in the Northeast, has been developed in coordination with the IAF to enable emergency landings and take-offs for both military and civilian aircraft. Designed as dual-use infrastructure, it can handle fighter jets up to 40 tonnes and transport aircraft up to 74 tonnes, strengthening disaster response and strategic preparedness in the region.

Later in the day, the Prime Minister is set to inaugurate and flag off development projects worth over Rs 5,450 crore to boost connectivity, digital infrastructure, higher education, and urban mobility in the Northeast. He will inspect and inaugurate the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu across the Brahmaputra River, built at a cost of about Rs 3,030 crore. The six-lane extradosed prestressed concrete bridge links Guwahati with North Guwahati, reducing travel time to around seven minutes. Built with advanced seismic protection using friction pendulum bearings, it also features high-performance stay cables and a Bridge Health Monitoring System for real-time safety assessment.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the National Data Centre for the Northeastern region at Amingaon in Kamrup district. With an 8.5 MW sanctioned load and average rack capacity of 10 kW, the facility will host mission-critical government applications and function as a disaster recovery centre, strengthening the region’s digital backbone under the Digital India vision.

The inauguration of Indian Institute of Management Guwahati is expected to boost higher education in the Northeast. Over 225 electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme will also be flagged off in Guwahati, Nagpur, Bhavnagar, and Chandigarh, benefiting more than 50 lakh citizens with cleaner and more reliable public transport.
