From Gongura Paneer to Palakura Pappu: PM Modi's Dinner Spread for NDA MPs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently hosted National Democratic Alliance MPs for a warm, celebratory dinner at his residence on 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, following the coalition’s sweeping victory in the Bihar elections where it secured 202 of 243 seats. The all-vegetarian spread showcased flavours from across India, highlighting millets, farm-fresh ingredients, and classic recipes that reflect the country’s diverse culinary traditions.
The evening began with refreshing beverages such as ginger-infused orange juice and pomegranate juice before moving into comforting starters. Among them was Subz Badam Shorba, a gentle blend of seasonal vegetables and almonds, as well as a creative millet-based snack, Kakum Matar Akhrot Ki Shammi, made with foxtail millet, peas, and walnuts—an echo of Modi’s ongoing advocacy for nutritious millets, often referred to as “shree anna” for their health benefits and importance to farmers in arid regions.
Regional dishes formed the heart of the menu. Andhra Pradesh flavours stood out with Gongura Paneer, where tangy sorrel leaves and paneer combine for a bold, home-style taste, and Palakura Pappu, a wholesome dal cooked with spinach. Gujarat’s Bhindi Sambhariya brought sweet and nutty notes with okra, sesame, and jaggery, while Gajar Methi Matar offered a North Indian medley of vegetables and fenugreek. A rich Khubani Malai Kofta, featuring apricot-based dumplings, added a festive touch.
The mains were accompanied by an array of Indian breads—naan, missi roti, and laccha paratha—and a fragrant Kale Moti Chilgoza Pulao crafted with basmati rice, black gram, and pine nuts. Dessert balanced indulgence with lightness, offering Baked Pista Langcha filled with pistachio, Kerala’s Ada Pradaman made with palm jaggery and coconut milk, along with fresh fruits and a soothing cup of Kashmiri Kahwah.
Beyond the food, the gathering served as a moment of connection. Modi wrote on X that the dinner symbolized the alliance’s commitment to teamwork, governance, and continued reforms that simplify life for citizens. Several MPs described the evening as carrying a family-like warmth, even arriving together by bus to emphasize camaraderie. In a political atmosphere often marked by division, such occasions help strengthen bonds while subtly promoting healthier, local, and sustainable eating—offering inspiration to anyone looking to add more millets or regional flavours to their own cooking.
