First Image of Delhi Blast Suspect Emerges: Parked Car Near Red Fort for Hours

A chilling development has emerged in the investigation of the recent blast near Delhi's iconic Red Fort. Authorities have released the first photograph of the prime suspect, identified as Dr. Umar Mohammad. He is believed to be the driver of the white Hyundai i20 that exploded near the Red Fort metro station, leading to tragic loss of life and multiple injuries.
CCTV footage reveals that the car was parked near the Red Fort for about three hours before the explosion, from roughly 3:19 PM until shortly before the blast at 6:52 PM. During this time, the vehicle remained stationary in a parking lot close to the heritage site, raising questions about the suspect’s intentions and preparations. The images further show a man, believed to be Dr. Umar, behind the wheel wearing a blue and black t-shirt, reinforcing the suspicion that he was directly involved in the attack.
Dr. Umar Mohammad hails from Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir and was employed as a doctor at Al Falah Medical College. Reports indicate he was linked to a terror module operating out of Faridabad, Haryana, which was recently busted by police forces from Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana. This connection has prompted investigators to probe the incident as a terror attack under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
This blast tragically claimed the lives of nine people and injured over 20 others, with the explosion setting off a chain reaction that ignited nearby vehicles in the congested area. The incident took place during peak evening hours, causing widespread panic and significant damage to the surroundings. Security measures have been heightened across Delhi, and a high-level meeting led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah was convened to coordinate the investigation and response.
The case has also drawn attention due to the recent discovery of a massive cache of explosives from a residence in Faridabad, possibly linked to the same terror module. The integration of forensic evidence, intelligence inputs, and CCTV footage has enabled security agencies to make rapid strides in the investigation, including the collection of DNA samples from the suspect’s family for confirmation.
As Delhi remains on high alert, the government and law enforcement agencies continue their comprehensive probe to bring all responsible parties to justice and prevent any future attacks. This incident underscores ongoing security challenges and the critical need for vigilant counterterrorism operations in India’s capital.
