The FBI has released disturbing surveillance video that appears to show a masked man carefully surveying the Brown University campus just hours before a mass shooting that left two students dead and nine others injured. The footage, recorded around 2 pm on Saturday by neighborhood cameras, shows a stocky man of about average height dressed in dark clothing moving deliberately through the East Side area roughly two hours before gunfire broke out inside an engineering building during finals week. Police say the behavior suggests advance planning rather than random movement.

Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez said investigators are focusing on the suspect’s distinctive walk, arm motions, and posture visible in the enhanced video and urged the public to closely review these details. Authorities note that similar pre attack reconnaissance has been seen in past campus shootings, increasing concern about the level of planning involved. A reward of 50000 dollars has been announced as police and the FBI review large volumes of tips and private security footage, a task made harder by fresh snowfall that may have obscured tracks.

The victims include 18 year old Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, a student from Uzbekistan who hoped to become a neurosurgeon, and 19 year old Ella Cook, a student leader from Alabama. Several others remain hospitalized, including one in critical condition, as the university remains under heightened security. Although an early wrongful arrest briefly slowed the investigation, city officials say the search is intensifying.

Investigators have not yet identified a motive or any clear connection between the suspect and the university, leaving the community on edge as the person of interest remains at large. Law enforcement officials stress that the apparent preparation underscores the importance of public awareness and are asking residents to review any camera footage from the weekend and report anything suspicious immediately.
