EAM Jaishankar holds talks with Brazil's Vice President Alckmin on enhancing trade and energy collaboration.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Brazil’s Vice President Geraldo Alckmin on Friday in New Delhi to explore opportunities for expanding cooperation in trade, energy, and connectivity, among other areas. In a post on X, Jaishankar described the meeting as “a pleasure” and noted discussions on strengthening collaboration in trade, investment, energy, connectivity, health, and technology.
Earlier, on Thursday, Alckmin met with Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan in New Delhi as part of his official visit aimed at bolstering bilateral ties between India and Brazil. Following the meeting, the Vice President’s office highlighted both leaders’ optimism about enhancing trade and economic relations, including energy cooperation, partnerships in pharmaceuticals and defence, research investments, improved connectivity, and collaboration in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence and digitalisation. Alckmin, who arrived in India on Wednesday, is holding several high-level meetings focused on trade, industry, energy, and strategic cooperation. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, noted that the visit adds momentum to the India-Brazil Strategic Partnership.
On Wednesday, Alckmin also met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, where both sides emphasised the strategic significance of defence and security cooperation, which Singh described as one of the five pillars of India-Brazil relations. The visit follows the sixth India-Brazil Strategic Dialogue held on October 3 in New Delhi, led by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Brazil’s Ambassador Celso Luis Nunes Amorim, which covered collaboration in defence, energy, critical minerals, health, and pharmaceuticals, as well as coordination in multilateral forums such as BRICS, IBSA, and the upcoming COP-30 climate summit in Brazil.
Economic engagement is a key focus of the visit. During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to Brazil in July, both nations agreed to raise bilateral trade to USD 20 billion within five years. Alckmin’s visit is expected to further strengthen the India-Brazil partnership and set the stage for President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s state visit to India next year, continuing the roadmap established during the Modi-Lula summit.
