The Assam Cabinet on Tuesday approved an amendment to the Assam Services Discipline and Appeal Rules, 1964, allowing the state government to dismiss employees found practising polygamy and disqualify them from future government employment. The decision was among several key measures cleared at the Cabinet meeting. The government also approved an increase in the upper age limit for ex-servicemen applying for Grade III and Grade IV government posts, allowing them to enter state services up to the age of 45.

The Cabinet cleared a Ropeway Development Agreement between the Assam government and National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML). The agreement aims to establish a framework for developing ropeways as an alternative transport system along selected routes across the state.

The proposed projects include a 1.43-km ropeway connecting Kamakhya Railway Station with Kamakhya Temple and an 11-km route between Khanapara and Guwahati Railway Station in Kamrup district. Other approved routes include an 11-km cable network from Ganganagar Part VII to Bhuban Pahar Mahadev, a 3.5-km connection between Jatinga Bird Watching Tower and Hempeupet Peak in Dima Hasao district, and a 1.8-km route linking Agnigarh with Bhairobi Mandir in Sonitpur district.

The Cabinet also approved additional financial assistance of Rs 200 per quintal for farmers, taking the total minimum support price to Rs 2,640 per quintal. The state government approved a recommendation for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the factors behind the devastating floods that affected Sivasagar and Charaideo districts in July 2026. On the land settlement front, the Cabinet cleared 154 proposals across 13 districts for the settlement of land in favour of indigenous people, government institutions and educational institutions.

It also approved the de-reservation of 987 bighas of Village Grazing Reserve (VGR) land in Dhekiajuli for distribution among landless labourers belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities. An equivalent area of government land will be earmarked as VGR land to compensate for the land being de-reserved.

The Cabinet approved the allocation of approximately 6,000 bighas of land in Nellie for the establishment of Assam's first Defence Park. The decisions cover a range of areas, including government service regulations, employment opportunities, transport infrastructure, agricultural assistance, flood-related investigations and land welfare initiatives.
