Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled the "New Delhi Frontier AI Commitments" during the India AI Impact Summit.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday announced a key outcome of the India AI Impact Summit, introducing the "New Delhi Frontier AI Commitments," a voluntary framework jointly adopted by major global and Indian AI firms. Describing it as an important milestone, Vaishnaw said that leading frontier AI companies and domestic AI developers had agreed on shared voluntary commitments aimed at promoting inclusive and equitable AI development.
He highlighted two central pillars of the initiative. The first focuses on enabling practical AI applications through anonymised and aggregated data insights. According to the minister, this approach will support evidence-based policymaking related to employment, skills, and governance, while ensuring privacy protection. He noted that such insights would help governments and institutions better analyse workforce trends and future skill demands without compromising individual privacy.
The second commitment centres on improving multilingual capabilities and evaluating AI systems across diverse real-world use cases. Vaishnaw stressed that this is particularly crucial for the Global South, where linguistic and cultural diversity requires AI systems to function accurately and inclusively across multiple languages and social contexts. He said these commitments reflect a collaborative effort to promote responsible AI innovation, adding that they represent a meaningful step toward developing AI that is powerful, inclusive, development-focused, and globally relevant.
Following the announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined global technology leaders for a group photograph at the summit in New Delhi. Among those present were Sundar Pichai of Google and Alphabet, Sam Altman of OpenAI, Alexandr Wang, representatives from Meta, and Dario Amodei of Anthropic.
The summit, held from February 16 to 20, aims to harness AI to address global challenges and create new opportunities for shared growth. The five-day event is built around three core themes—People, Planet, and Progress—which have guided discussions since the Prime Minister inaugurated the India AI Impact Expo 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi earlier this week.
