Andhra Pradesh: Police report that an individual accused of attempting to rape a minor girl has died by suicide.

In a shocking turn of events in Tuni, Kakinada district, Andhra Pradesh, the accused in the attempted rape case of a minor girl, identified as Tatika Narayana Rao, allegedly died by suicide, police reported. The incident occurred on Wednesday night around 10:30 p.m. near Komati Cheruvu, on the outskirts of Tuni town. According to Inspector Ramakrishna, while Rao was being escorted to appear before a magistrate, he requested a halt to relieve himself. When the jeep stopped, he reportedly jumped into a nearby lake. Authorities suspect the incident to be a case of suicide.

Following the incident, the Andhra Pradesh State Women’s Commission took suo motu cognisance of the attempted rape of the minor, a Gurukul student. Expressing deep concern, Commission Chairperson Dr. Rayapati Sailaja directed officials to ensure swift and strict action against the accused. She also instructed the Kakinada District Superintendent of Police to prosecute Rao under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

In addition, orders were issued to the District Collector’s Office and the Child Welfare Committee to provide the victim with immediate protection, medical assistance, and legal support. The Commission has also asked the District Police Department to submit a detailed report within 48 hours and has urged the Andhra Pradesh Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (APSWREIS) to strengthen security in Gurukul schools. Dr. Sailaja emphasized that the Commission will closely monitor the investigation to ensure that justice is delivered promptly and without delay.
