An Indian citizen was among those killed in a shooting connected to an apparent family dispute in the US state of Georgia, the Indian mission in Atlanta confirmed. The incident occurred early Friday morning in Lawrenceville, where four adults were shot dead while three children were inside the house, according to local reports.

The Consulate General of India in Atlanta expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and stated that the suspect has been taken into custody. It added that all possible support is being provided to the grieving family. In a statement shared on X, the consulate said it was deeply saddened by the shooting linked to a family dispute that claimed the life of an Indian national.

Local media identified the suspect as 51-year-old Vijay Kumar from Atlanta. Authorities named the victims as Kumar’s wife, Meemu Dogra, 43, along with Gourav Kumar, 33, Nidhi Chander, 37, and Harish Chander, 38, according to Gwinnett County police. The suspect faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, felony murder, malice murder, and several counts of cruelty to children, officials said.

Police responded to an emergency call around 2.30 am local time at a residence on Brook Ivy Court. When officers arrived, they found four adults inside the home who had suffered fatal gunshot wounds. Investigators said three children were present when the shooting occurred. The children hid in a closet to stay safe, and one of them managed to call 911, providing crucial details that helped officers reach the scene quickly. The children were not injured and were later taken into the care of a family member.
