Adani officials sought Trump administration's help to end U.S. bribery cases, Bloomberg reports.

Representatives of Indian billionaire Gautam Adani and his companies met with officials from former U.S. President Donald Trump's administration to discuss the dismissal of criminal charges in an overseas bribery investigation, Bloomberg News reported on May 4, citing sources familiar with the matter. The discussions, which began earlier this year, have gained momentum recently, with hopes for a resolution in the next month, according to the report.
In November, U.S. authorities charged Adani and his nephew, Sagar Adani, accusing them of paying bribes to secure power contracts in India and misleading U.S. investors during fundraising efforts. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) summoned them, alleging they paid millions in bribes to Indian officials and misrepresented their anti-bribery compliance during a $750 million Adani Green Energy bond offering.
Adani's representatives are arguing that his prosecution is inconsistent with Trump's priorities and should be reconsidered, according to Bloomberg. Neither the Adani Group, the Department of Justice (DOJ), nor the White House commented on the report. The Adani Group, the White House, and the DOJ also did not respond to Reuters' requests for comments. Last month, Adani Green stated that its review of the U.S. indictment found no violations or irregularities.
