A devastating fire broke out late Monday night at a restaurant located on the ground floor of the Clarks Inn Hotel in the Katghar police station area of Moradabad, resulting in the death of one woman and injuries to several others. The fire reportedly began inside the restaurant and turned severe after at least four gas cylinders exploded, causing the flames to rapidly spread to the upper floors of the building.

According to Chief Fire Officer Rajeev Kumar Pandey, the fire department received an emergency call around 10 pm. Initially, two fire tenders arrived at the scene, but as the blaze intensified following the cylinder blasts, additional units were rushed to assist. In total, seven fire tenders were deployed to bring the situation under control. “Several people were trapped upstairs. We rescued around 16 individuals, including four women and two children. A dog was also safely evacuated,” Pandey said. The cause of the fire remains unknown and is currently under investigation.

Moradabad SP City Kumar Ranvijay Singh confirmed that all those trapped were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical care. He added that approximately 15–16 people were inside the restaurant when the fire erupted. Medical authorities later confirmed one casualty. Dr. Junaid Asari, Emergency Medical Officer at Moradabad District Hospital, reported that seven people were admitted for treatment. Among them, a 56-year-old woman, identified as Maya, was declared dead on arrival, while the others are in stable condition. Authorities continue to assess the damage as investigations proceed.
