A film from India that speaks to the world: Anupam Kher shares touching reaction to 'Tanvi The Great' trailer and its global premieres

Anupam Kher’s upcoming directorial, Tanvi The Great, is generating global attention following its premieres at Cannes, New York, Houston, and Austin. The film’s trailer received an emotional response, with Kher expressing joy over the impact it’s had, particularly in raising awareness about autism and highlighting the inherent goodness in humanity.
The film tells the story of Tanvi Raina, a 21-year-old autistic girl who aspires to join the Indian Army to fulfill her late father's dream of saluting the national flag at Siachen. Debutante Shubhangi Dutt plays the lead role, alongside Jackie Shroff, Boman Irani, Pallavi Joshi, Karan Tacker, and Anupam Kher himself. Speaking with ANI, Kher emphasized the film’s message of universal empathy and the revival of compassion in today’s fast-paced world. “When people see goodness on screen, their own feelings resurface,” he said, noting the emotional reactions the trailer received worldwide.
He described Tanvi The Great as “a film from India for the world,” pointing to the global resonance of its message. Jackie Shroff also highlighted the film’s role in spreading awareness about autism, emphasizing that stories like this can inspire societal understanding. Shubhangi Dutt, the film’s lead, admitted she never imagined making her debut in such a powerful film, expecting a more traditional Bollywood entry. However, she expressed gratitude for starting her career with a project of such emotional depth and significance.
The film was screened at Cannes to standing ovations and had a grand showing at the New York Indian Film Festival, attended by Hollywood legend Robert De Niro. Featuring music by Oscar-winner M.M. Keeravani, Tanvi The Great is produced by Anupam Kher Studios and NFDC, with global distribution by Excel Entertainment and AA Films. The movie is set to release on July 18, 2025.
