Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated that a central team would soon visit the state to assess the impact of recent cloudbursts and flash floods. After meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Tuesday, CM Sukhu revealed that the state had already suffered damages worth around ₹1,000 crore, despite the monsoon just beginning.

Speaking to the media, he said, “I discussed the disaster situation in Himachal with the Home Minister. He acknowledged the severity of the damage and assured me of a personal visit to the state. He has also directed officials to study the cloudburst incidents, and a central team will soon be dispatched for this purpose.”

CM Sukhu also urged the Centre for a special relief package. The Home Minister responded that it would be considered following the team’s assessment. During the meeting, the CM informed that the calamity had claimed lives and caused severe damage to critical infrastructure, including roads, bridges, water and electricity supply systems, buildings, and irrigation schemes. He requested central assistance for relief and restoration, highlighting that natural disasters have become a recurring challenge since 2023. The state has reportedly suffered cumulative losses of nearly ₹21,000 crore over the past three years.

Despite efforts through the SDRF and NDRF, the Chief Minister said the state is struggling to restore infrastructure due to limited resources and the repeated nature of such events. CM Sukhu also met Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to discuss National Highway projects. He requested funds under the Central Road Fund (CRF) for disaster-affected roads, and the minister assured that the matter would be considered.
