The New Delhi district election officer (DEO) has referred the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) complaints against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Parvesh Verma to the police for further investigation, according to a report by PTI. AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal accused Verma of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by distributing ₹1,100 in cash and organizing job camps under the "Har Ghar Naukari" campaign.
Kejriwal claimed that these actions constitute corrupt practices as per Election Commission rules and demanded that Verma be barred from contesting elections. He also called for a raid on Verma's residence to uncover any hidden cash. The DEO submitted an action-taken report to the chief electoral officer (CEO) of Delhi, stating that police were instructed to investigate Kejriwal’s allegations and take appropriate action under the Representation of Peoples Act.
Additionally, the DEO issued instructions to prevent the organization of job camps scheduled for January 15. However, reports from poll officials indicated that flying squads, responsible for monitoring MCC violations, did not find evidence of job camps or related pamphlets, as alleged by AAP.
Kejriwal further accused the local election officer of the New Delhi constituency of favoring the BJP and facilitating its alleged wrongdoings. He demanded the suspension of the local DEO and ERO and claimed that arbitrary deletions of voters from electoral rolls were taking place. These allegations were rejected by poll officials.
