Ali Abbasi has expressed deep regret over an incident at a Golden Globes afterparty, where his actions allegedly made an unnamed actor uncomfortable. The Apprentice director was reported to have "groped" the A-lister, but he described the moment as a "playful slap on the rear," believing it was an over-familiar gesture toward someone he considered a friend.
In a statement, Abbasi clarified that he never intended the act in a sexual way and apologized immediately when he realized it had been misinterpreted. "I fully understand that my action made someone uncomfortable, regardless of my intent, and for that, I am truly sorry," he said. He explained that he had interacted with the person multiple times in the past and was excited to reconnect but admitted that he had misjudged the situation.
Following the incident, Deadline reported that Abbasi had parted ways with his agencies, Creative Artists Agency (CAA) and Management 360, which also represent the unnamed actor. However, Abbasi denied any connection between the event and his career move. "The suggestion that I was dropped by my representation due to this interaction is false," he insisted, explaining that his decision to leave was based on long-term career goals rather than recent events.
Despite the controversy, Abbasi remains focused on his work. He reiterated his appreciation for the cast and crew of The Apprentice and expressed hope that their achievements remain the focus. He also confirmed that he is taking his career in a new direction and looks forward to sharing his next steps in due time.
