Sheikh Yousuf Afridi, a commander associated with the militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has reportedly been killed by unidentified armed attackers in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. According to initial information, the assailants opened fire multiple times at Afridi, who was considered a close aide of LeT chief Hafiz Saeed, leaving him fatally wounded at the scene.

Afridi was believed to play an important role in coordinating and supporting the group’s activities in the region, and his death is being investigated as a targeted killing by security agencies. This incident is part of a broader trend of similar attacks on high-profile individuals linked to militant organizations in Pakistan over recent months. In one such case, Amir Hamza, a wanted operative and founding member of LeT, was targeted by an unidentified gunman in Lahore near a television station. He reportedly survived the attack.

Muhammad Tahir Anwar, the elder brother of Jaish-e-Mohammed leader Maulana Masood Azhar, died under unclear circumstances in Pakistan. He was said to have been involved in operational activities of the group. Abu Qatal, also known as Qatal Sindhi, a senior LeT operative and associate of Hafiz Saeed, was killed by unknown attackers in Jhelum, Sindh. He was reportedly linked to planning attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, including the 2024 Reasi incident that resulted in multiple casualties.

Since 2023, Pakistan has witnessed a series of such targeted killings, with several individuals linked to militant outfits being attacked in different cities including Lahore and Karachi. Reports suggest that dozens of such incidents have taken place, reflecting a continuing pattern of violence against individuals associated with banned or extremist organizations.
