TTV Dhinakaran met with BJP leader Piyush Goyal as his party, AMMK, rejoined the NDA ahead of the Tamil Nadu elections.

Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) General Secretary TTV Dhinakaran met Union Minister and BJP Tamil Nadu election in-charge Piyush Goyal on Wednesday, following the announcement that AMMK would rejoin the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Dhinakaran emphasized that past differences should not hinder the party's broader goals as it prepares to re-enter the NDA. He stressed the importance of resolving internal disputes for the welfare of Tamil Nadu. Speaking at a press conference in Chennai, he said, “With the larger objective in mind, old issues should not overshadow the party's interests or the welfare of Tamil Nadu. Making compromises for the common good does not weaken us.” Dhinakaran added that as Amma’s supporters, the party would unite to restore good governance in the state and ensure the return of Amma’s leadership.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address a public meeting in Maduranthakam, Chengalpattu district, on January 23, as the BJP ramps up its campaign ahead of the state elections. The event, which will include AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, GK Vasan, John Pandian, and other alliance leaders, is expected to be a major rallying point for the NDA.
The NDA, led by AIADMK and BJP in Tamil Nadu, aims to challenge the ruling DMK-Congress alliance. The elections are likely to see a triangular contest after actor-turned-politician Vijay launched his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), seeking a leading role. Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu are set for the first half of 2026, with political activity intensifying as parties roll out their strategies and manifestos.
