The new building of the Chhattisgarh Assembly will be entirely powered by green energy.

The newly constructed Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly building will operate entirely on green energy, with solar power systems being installed in stages. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new complex on Saturday, located on a 51-acre site behind Mahanadi Bhawan in Naya Raipur, the emerging capital city of Chhattisgarh. The structure spans 622,000 square feet and was built at an estimated cost of ₹325 crore.
Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh stated that the new Vidhan Sabha follows a green building model and will eventually be fully powered by solar energy. “Solar projects will be implemented in phases, and soon the entire Assembly will run on solar power,” he said. Over 23,000 saplings have been planted across the premises, and a rainwater harvesting system is also being set up. The design of the complex allows for future expansion.
Although the current Assembly has 90 members, the building has been designed to accommodate up to 200 members, with provisions to enlarge ministerial chambers accordingly. The Assembly hall covers 16,000 square feet and provides seating for 200 legislators, while the gallery can seat 320 people, including media personnel, special guests, and spectators.
The first floor houses a 2,400-square-foot conference hall with seating for 100, and the second floor features a 3,200-square-foot central hall with a capacity of 200. The upper ground floor includes 24 ministerial rooms, two committee rooms, and a cabinet hall. The lower ground floor is equipped with dispensaries offering allopathic, homeopathic, and ayurvedic treatments, along with a bank, post office, and canteen.
A modern auditorium seating 500 people and parking space for 850 vehicles are also part of the complex. When Chhattisgarh was formed on November 1, 2000, Assembly sessions were first held in a school hall and later moved to a central government research institute. The new building now marks the Assembly’s permanent home.
