The Indian Air Force (IAF) and the French Air and Space Force are carrying out a range of mission profiles to strengthen interoperability as Exercise Garuda 2025 progresses at a rapid pace. In an update shared on X, the IAF’s media coordination centre stated, “#ExerciseGaruda25: With a sustained high operational tempo, crews of the Indian Air Force and the French Air and Space Force are seamlessly coordinating, executing diverse missions, and displaying exceptional skill.” The post also emphasized that professionalism, precision, and teamwork are continuing to enhance interoperability and reinforce the strong bilateral partnership.

The eighth edition of Exercise Garuda is taking place at Mont-de-Marsan, France, from November 16 to 27, as confirmed by the Ministry of Defence. The C-17 Globemaster III is providing airlift support during the induction and de-induction phases, while IL-78 air-to-air refuelling tankers are extending the range and endurance of the participating fighter aircraft.

According to the ministry, IAF’s Su-30MKI fighters are flying alongside French multirole aircraft in complex simulated combat missions, focusing on air-to-air engagements, air defence operations, and coordinated strike missions. The exercise aims to refine tactics, improve procedures, and promote mutual learning in a realistic operational setting, thereby enhancing cooperation between the IAF and the FASF.

Exercise Garuda 25 also creates space for professional exchanges, operational learning, and the sharing of best practices between both Air Forces. The participation highlights the IAF’s commitment to strengthening ties with friendly foreign forces through multilateral training exercises, fostering better understanding and collaboration in air operations.

India and France share a long-standing and close relationship, built on a robust Strategic Partnership established on January 26, 1998. This partnership reflects the shared vision of both countries to expand strategic autonomy through deeper cooperation. Defence and security, civil nuclear cooperation, and space are key pillars of this collaboration, now further expanded with a strong Indo-Pacific dimension.
