The Hellenic Navy chief received a Guard of Honour in Delhi, welcomed by Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi to strengthen maritime ties.

Vice Admiral Dimitrios-Eleftherios Kataras, Chief of the Hellenic Navy, was honoured with a ceremonial Guard of Honour at South Block in New Delhi. He was received by Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Indian Navy, marking continued efforts to deepen maritime cooperation. Earlier, Vice Admiral Kataras paid tribute to fallen soldiers by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial.
The visit reflects growing defence and strategic engagement between India and Greece. Recently, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held talks with Greek Defence Minister Nikolaos‑Georgios Dendias in New Delhi, where both sides agreed to expand defence cooperation. A key outcome was the decision to deploy a Greek liaison officer at the Information Fusion Centre‑Indian Ocean Region in Gurugram to improve maritime coordination.
Both nations also signed a Joint Declaration of Intent to boost defence industrial collaboration and exchanged the Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan for 2026, outlining future military engagements. Rajnath Singh emphasized the importance of the long-standing partnership, strengthened further after Narendra Modi visited Greece in 2023 and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited India in 2024.
Singh thanked Greece for supporting India on key issues, including counter-terrorism efforts and its bid for permanent membership in the UN Security Council. Both sides highlighted shared democratic values, mutual respect, and increasing alignment on regional and maritime security. The Greek delegation will also visit Bengaluru to engage with defence industries and public sector units. According to the Ministry of Defence, the visit reinforces the strategic partnership and reflects the commitment of both nations to strengthen defence cooperation and promote regional stability.
