The CIA has confirmed that U.S. strikes have caused significant damage to Iran's nuclear program.

Despite initial reports suggesting that U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities caused only minor disruptions, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has confirmed—based on what it calls a “body of credible intelligence”—that the strikes inflicted serious damage on Tehran’s nuclear infrastructure, which could take years to rebuild.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, CIA Director John Ratcliffe said, “The CIA can confirm that credible intelligence indicates Iran’s nuclear program has been significantly damaged by recent targeted strikes. This includes new data from a highly reliable source, confirming that multiple key Iranian nuclear sites were destroyed and would need to be reconstructed over several years.” He added that the CIA is continuing its intelligence-gathering efforts to keep policymakers and oversight bodies informed. He also noted that updates would be shared with the public when possible, given the importance of the matter.
“We are continuing to collect well-sourced intelligence to keep decision-makers fully briefed. When possible, we will also share information with the American people, considering the national importance and our commitment to transparency,” the statement added. The CIA's announcement comes amid conflicting narratives about the effectiveness of the June 22 strikes. A CNN report, citing sources familiar with internal assessments, claimed the attacks only temporarily disrupted Iran’s nuclear capabilities, delaying progress by just a few months.
In response, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, along with senior Pentagon officials, will hold a press conference at 8 a.m. EST on Thursday. The aim is to highlight the efforts of American pilots involved in the operation and to push back against what the administration describes as “misleading” coverage by CNN and The New York Times.
Trump posted on Truth Social: “Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and military leaders will hold a major press conference tomorrow to defend the honor of our courageous pilots. After flying 36 hours through hostile territory and completing a legendary mission, they were disheartened by the false reports from CNN and The Failing New York Times. These outlets, in their effort to undermine President Trump, misrepresented facts they didn’t even have yet. The upcoming briefing will present undeniable proof. Enjoy!”
