Volvo has introduced a new addition to its electric vehicle lineup with the ES90, a model that merges the refined elegance of a sedan, the versatility of a fastback, and the spacious interior and elevated ground clearance typical of an SUV. The design is unmistakably Volvo, featuring the iconic Thor’s Hammer headlights and C-shaped tail lamps, which are enhanced by LED lights on the rear windscreen behind the C-pillars. The ES90 is a sizable vehicle, measuring 5,000mm in length, over 2,000mm in width, and with a 3,100mm wheelbase that ensures ample cabin space.

Though its silhouette resembles a saloon, the ES90 is actually a fastback, offering a large opening for easy loading and unloading. The boot provides 424 litres of space behind the rear seats, which expands to 733 litres when the seats are folded, with an additional 27 litres available in the front trunk. Marketed as a software-defined vehicle, the ES90 incorporates Volvo’s Superset tech stack, a unified set of hardware and software modules that allows for faster and more efficient updates, enabling the car to improve over time.

To power this advanced system, the ES90 is the first Volvo to be equipped with a dual Nvidia Drive AGX Orin setup, capable of performing 508 trillion operations per second, an eightfold increase over the AGX Xavier. Inside, the car features a new-generation infotainment system displayed on a 14.5-inch central screen, integrated with Google services such as Maps, Assistant, and apps from the Play Store.

Safety remains a cornerstone of Volvo’s design, with the ES90 featuring an extensive array of sensors, including seven cameras, five radars, and twelve ultrasonic sensors. Standard safety technologies include Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keeping Aid, Rear Collision Warning and Mitigation, and Front and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Intersection Autobrake.

In Singapore, the entry-level ES90 Plus produces 245kW (329bhp) and 480Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds and offering a combined range of 661km from its 92kWh battery. The top-of-the-line Ultra variant shares the same powertrain but comes with a higher level of standard equipment, including an electrochromic glass roof, laminated acoustic side and rear windows, soft-closing doors, massaging front seats, and power-reclining rear seats.

All ES90 models utilize an 800V electrical architecture that supports high-speed charging. Using a 350kW DC charger, the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes, while the maximum AC charging rate is 11kW. At the time of launch, the ES90 Ultra starts from $410,000, including COE, with pricing for the ES90 Plus to be announced following LTA homologation.
