Torrential rainfall over the past 24 hours has caused widespread disruption across Himachal Pradesh, resulting in landslides, waterlogged homes, and blocked roads. One of the most severely affected routes is the Shimla-Sunni-Karsog highway, which has been completely obstructed near Devidhar, approximately 35 km from Shimla. The blockage has left numerous vehicles and commuters stranded. As of the latest reports, no restoration efforts had begun, and long lines of vehicles were seen on both sides of the landslide-affected stretch. The situation has led to growing frustration among local residents and travelers, as fresh landslides continue to occur in various parts of the region.

Ajay, a commuter traveling from Shimla to Mandi, described the confusion and helplessness at the scene. "I've been stuck for over an hour now. A landslide happened just before I reached here, and a car ahead of me narrowly avoided getting hit," he shared. "There’s been no response yet from the administration or the Public Works Department. We’re all just waiting. The rainfall is causing serious problems—more landslides are being reported, and water has even entered homes back in my area. People are scared."

Manish, a traveler from Patiala, Punjab, who was heading to his in-laws’ home in the Sunni region of Shimla district, also found himself caught in the chaos. "I left Punjab last night and have only 15 kilometers to go, but I’ve been stuck here for an hour. Rocks are falling from the hillside, and the road is completely blocked. It’s terrifying," he said.

A Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus traveling from Delhi to Karsog is among the stranded vehicles. Conductor Jagdish Sharma said,

"We have 20 passengers on board who started from Delhi. We informed our seniors so that road-clearing work can begin. The rain has caused heavy damage, and people are in real difficulty."

Local sources report rising panic as more landslides and flooding of homes and shops are being reported. Authorities have not yet issued an official update on clearing the highway. With continuing landslides in other districts as well, disaster management teams and state officials are expected to release fresh advisories and begin emergency response measures soon.
