Ram Charan further highlighted that this is the first-ever archery league in India. He expressed pride in supporting archers worldwide, particularly Indian archers, and noted that the league provides them with a global platform. Reflecting on archery’s significance in Indian epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata, he mentioned his own experience playing an archer in his film RRR, and hoped that Indian sports fans would support this culturally rich sport.
Actor Randeep Hooda also attended the event and praised the initiative. Speaking to ANI, he said that such leagues, similar to the IPL, give young players international exposure and strengthen the nation’s talent pool. He highlighted the cultural importance of archery and noted the symbolic timing of the league’s launch on Dussehra. Hooda expressed his excitement at being associated with Delhi’s team, the ‘Prithviraj Yodhas,’ and looked forward to competitive matches.
The inaugural edition of the Archery Premier League featured 48 archers divided among six franchises, with 36 Indian and 12 foreign archers selected through a draft. The Archery Association of India (AAI) organized the event, aiming to give emerging talent international exposure. AAI President Arjun Munda explained that the league is designed to make archery popular both in India and globally, and to uncover hidden talent, particularly from rural areas. He also mentioned that a foreign coach will be appointed to prepare India for the 2028 and 2032 Olympics, and emphasized that the selection process for teams was transparent and merit-based.
