Parts of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a complete shutdown on Tuesday as residents mourned the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and protested against the United States and Israel. Shops and businesses remained closed following US-Israeli airstrikes in Iran that reportedly killed Khamenei, triggering widespread protests in the region.

Police and CRPF were on high alert to maintain law and order. Shia Muslim communities have been observing mourning and protests for the past three days, expressing solidarity with Iran and condemning the attacks. Protesters raised anti-US and anti-Israel slogans. Iran is observing 40 days of public mourning (Arba’een), a significant tradition in Shia Islam. Similar protests have been held across the country, with Shia Muslims denouncing the attacks on Iran.

Tensions across West Asia escalated, with reported strikes in Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Lebanon. An Iraqi armed group claimed responsibility for an attack on a hotel in Erbil alleged to house US troops. In Saudi Arabia, eight drones were intercepted near Riyadh and Al-Kharj. In Lebanon, the Israeli regime struck Hezbollah-affiliated broadcaster Al-Manar’s headquarters, though broadcasts resumed shortly after. Israel confirmed that its overnight strike in Beirut killed Hussein Makled, head of Hezbollah’s intelligence.
